And more than the natural, geographical beauty of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh has many more elements to explore, in terms of history, culture, science and types of activity.
If you’re looking for adventure, you will definitely be interested to explore the golden sand dunes and oases of Saudi Arabia around Riyadh, whether that means traditional camel riding in an authentic Bedouin experience, riding one of the world famous Arabian horses, or even more high-octane, adrenaline-pumping options such as sailing the dunes on quadbikes, or other motor vehicles! In any option, you will be able to step into an environment straight out of a film set, with the safety provided by the guidance of professional guides, and feel like an action film hero, thrashing up a sandstorm under your wheels with nothing but the horizon in front of you. Or, you could opt for a nighttime endeavor, and partake in the rich legacy of Arabian astronomy, observing the star-spotted sky as no other place on this planet will allow you to.
It is, however, advisable to avoid such adventurous endeavors during the summer months, especially if you are not well accustomed to high temperatures. For these warmer months, and for those of us seeking a more calming excursion, you always have the option of exploring nature closer to home, with destinations such as Wadi Hanifah, on actual oasis on the edge of Riyadh, or take a step back in resurrected history in the gloriously restored Diriyah district, with its bustling marketplace, the original Saudi Royal Family house, its museum, and its walkways. You could also choose to do so in urban parks such as the Salam Park, or the King Abdullah Park, parks that offer anything you could possibly want from an organized park experience, such as sights, amenities, picnic spots, boat and pony rides and so much more, day or night.
Live on the Edge
Or, perhaps, a relaxed tour of the famed date farms and other culturally and historically significant landmarks of Riyadh, closer to your home in Antara, would interest you more. After all, you need not travel to the edge of the world for some excitement. Unless, of course, we’re talking about the must-see destination of Jebel Fihrayn (“Edge of the world”), for one of the many art and music festivals happening there all year round, or simply to take in the majestic scenery.
Though you can do almost anything you can imagine within Riyadh, stepping just outside it can offer you even more.
